“Having a strong nursing leader is essential to providing the quality of care Southern Tennessee Regional Health System strives for every day,” says hospital CEO, Rob Followell. “We found that leader in Jean Ann. Her commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction along with her impressive clinical background are extraordinary and I look forward to working with her in making our hospital the hospital of choice in our area.”
McMurrey began her nursing career in Gadsden, Alabama where she served in many roles, from staff nurse, charge nurse, head nurse, staffing coordinator and finally to the Medical Surgical Division Director where she had overall responsibility for five large medical and surgical departments (170 beds). Her time and growth there span 18 years and covered cardiac, neuro, renal, and respiratory patients. This experience led her to a new position as Chief Nursing Officer at Jacksonville Medical Center in Jacksonville, Alabama where her commitment to quality and customer satisfaction was evident. During her tenure the hospital was awarded top honors for patient satisfaction, including HCAHPS, Outpatient, and Emergency scores by their parent company. The hospital also received the same honor for Physician and Employee Satisfaction. In addition, the hospital was named to Modern Healthcare’s Top 100 Places to Work for three consecutive years. Jean Ann also has had experience as a Chief Quality Officer where she initiated programs to enhance patient satisfaction such as hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and key words at key times. She met regulatory compliance requirements by implementing electronic medical records and coordinated continuous Joint Commission readiness plan.
As the new STRHS Winchester Chief Nursing Officer, McMurrey is responsible for the direction, oversight, and management for the majority of clinical departments such as all the nursing departments including Med/Surg, OB, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Skilled Nursing, Inpatient Rehab, and GeriPsych. She also provides oversight for all nursing in the other departments; surgery, cath lab, clinics, etc. She is passionate about customer service and patient experience, loves to teach and mentor, and build teamwork.
Jean Ann received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama and her Masters in Science in Nursing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. She is Board Certified in Medical Surgical Nursing by the ANCC(American Nurses Credentialing Center) and is a Joint Commission Certified Professional.

On a personal note, she and her husband of 35 years, Joe, have two grown daughters. The girls have blessed them with seven grandchildren in seven years. The little ones are her hobby during down time away from work. She and Joe are also big SEC football fans with a great affinity to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
