On October 5, 2013, the Southern Tennessee Plunge Marathon and Half Marathon presented by Southern Tennessee Medical Center took place in Winchester, TN for the fourth consecutive year.

In 2010, the STP welcomed 220 runners from eleven states to participate in the inaugural event and in 2011, there were 246 runners from 14 states and 2 countries.  In 2012, 327 participants represented 19 different states and the race continued to grow in 2013 with 382 participants from 21 states and 3 countries. Volunteers from city and county municipals and local businesses lined the streets ensuring that the runners are safe, hydrated, and medically attended to. The STP was voted by as one of the top ten marathons to run in the state of Tennessee.  The STP was also awarded the Tennessee Hospital Association 2012 Community Service Award!

All proceeds of the marathon are donated back to local charities.  Two major charities are the Franklin County Prevention Coalition and the Volunteers in Medicine.   Phil Young, STMC/EHH CEO presented each organization with a check for $2,000 on behalf of the STP.   Also, thirteen other civic organizations in Franklin County were given $150 each for the donation of their time on race day by working the water stations placed along the course.

As the race grows, the Southern Tennessee Plunge hopes to continue to increase donations throughout the years and continue to facilitate one of the best ranked road races in Tennessee.
