Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Lawrenceburg to Begin New Service

June 26, 2017

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Lawrenceburg (STRHS - Lawrenceburg) officials announce the beginning of a new cardiac rehabilitation program.

“The opening of a cardiac rehabilitation program illustrates our commitment to making communities healthier,” said hospital CEO, Jeff Noblin.  “In the past, many cardiac rehab patients were not successful because they had to drive out-of-town for their rehab.  STRHS - Lawrenceburg’s effort is designed to make sure people complete the necessary step to a full recovery and have the convenience of rehabilitation close to home.”  Carrie Rogers, hospital CNO states, “Developing cardiac rehab has long been a goal here in Lawrenceburg.  We’ve spent the past year focusing a lot more on cardiology and have invested a lot of effort in developing our care processes for cardiac patients.”  Scheduled to open in mid-June, this new service line will complement the existing pulmonary rehab service that has been in place at the hospital for several years.

What is cardiac rehab?  Cardiac rehab is an outpatient rehabilitation program for heart patients who have recently been discharged from the hospital.  The program offers supervised, progressive exercise regimens individualized to your needs.  Patients also have the opportunity to meet with a registered dietitian concerning a more healthy diet, as well as meet with a pharmacist to discuss any questions they may have about medications.  As a cardiac rehab participant, the exercise sessions are scheduled three times weekly at the hospital and they also are taught an additional exercise regimen to be used at home.

Who qualifies for cardiac rehab?

If you:

•  Have a documented diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction within the preceding 12 months (heart attack or MI)

•  Have had coronary bypass surgery (CABG)

•  Have stable angina pectoris (stable chest pain that is directly related to the heart)

•  Have had heart valve repair/replacement

•  Have had percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or coronary stenting (STENT)

•  Have had a heart or heart lung transplant.

An open house of the new Cardiac Rehabilitation Department will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 8:30 a.m.

A physician referral is required before participation in cardiac rehab.  Please contact cardiac rehab staff at 931-766-4605 if you would like to inquire about the program.
