Spine Surgery Available in Southern Tennessee
September 30, 2015
Southern Tennessee Regional Health System officials announce the addition of orthopedic and spine surgeon, Dr. John T. Friedland to the medical team of Southern Tennessee Orthopedics and Spine Center resulting in the availability of a new service across Franklin, Grundy, Lawrence, Giles, and surrounding counties.
“Less than a year ago our hospitals in Winchester, Sewanee, Lawrenceburg, and Pulaski joined to become a regional health system enabling us to become strong enough to recruit specialists and develop services not provided in our communities before”, said Phil Young, STRHS president. “Dr. Friedland is an accomplished orthopedic and spine surgeon and under his leadership we will be laying the foundation to an orthopedic and spine surgery program comparable to those in larger metropolitan areas. This new opportunity solidifies our commitment to the expansion of services across Southern Tennessee.”
Dr. Friedland graduated in the top of his class from the US Military Academy in West Point, NY and later received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his surgical residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in Ft. Sam, Houston, Texas and a spine fellowship at Panorama Orthopedic Clinic in Golden, Colorado. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons. Dr. Friedland is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthpaedic Surgery.
As an orthopedist, Dr. Friedland treats disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments and as a spine surgeon he will provide services such as cervical and lumbar decompression and fusion, surgery for adult deformity and degenerative conditions, discectomy for herniated discs, and fusion for instability. All of his surgeries will be considered for minimally invasive approaches, if possible, since small incisions usually mean a faster recovery period.
Southern Tennessee Orthopedics and Spine Center is located at 55 Sunrise Park in Winchester . There will be an Tailgating Open House event for Dr. Friedland on Friday, October 10 at his office from 11am until 1pm. The public is encouraged to come by and meet him.
